The Reconcilliation On The Way !
The Indonesian Military (TNI) has announced that its
personnel will rebuild the Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Police station, which
was severely damaged after dozens of military personnel set the
building on fire during a violent clash with police officers last
Thursday.
“Once the investigation is completed, we will work
together to rebuild the police precinct in recognition of our
responsibility,” said the second Regional Military Command (Kodam II)
Sriwijaya spokesman, Col.Jauhari, in Palembang, South Sumatra, on
Sunday.
He said that in order to prevent a similar conflict in the
future, police and military personnel would hold regular joint
activities.
Kodam II Sriwijaya has so far questioned 30 military personnel accused of being behind the arson attack on the OKU precinct.
“We cannot say yet what punishments we will impose on those 30 soldiers,” said Jauhari.
Meanwhile,
South Sumatra Police spokesman Adj.Sr.Comr.Djarot Padakova said his
institution was currently working as fast as it could to complete the
legal process concerning traffic cop Brig.Wijaya, who allegedly fatally
shot the TNI's First Pvt.Heru Oktavianus on Jan.27.
“The investigation dossier is already with the prosecutor's office and the trial will begin soon,” said Djarot.
If
convicted, Brig.Wijaya faces a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison as
stipulated in Article 338 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) for taking the
life of another. (ebf)
